Blog - Wii Region-Locking Problems
Unlike PS3 games or
most Xbox 360 games, the Wii is not region-free. This means you
can't play NTSC-J(Japanese) games on a NTSC-U(USA) or PAL(Europe/Australia)
console and vice-versa.
By installing a modchip, you can play games from other regions. You
can also use software like RegionFrii to make a game from another
region work on your console. But compatibility is not perfect and
not all games from PAL will work on NTSC-U or NTSC-J and vice-versa.
You can check if a game from another region will work on your
console by visiting the
Wii Region Compatibility List at
GBAtemp.
Some games contain firmware updates which may brick your Wii if its
from a different region. When playing a game from another region,
always use
WiiBrickBlocker to make sure that
you don't accidentally update your Wii with firmware from another
region. |
