Blog - Wii Firmware Problems

Just like a computer, the Wii receives regular firmware updates to fix bugs, add features and other functionality.

You can update to a new firmware by inserting a game that contains an update, or download it through the WiiConnect24 service.

Since the Wii is region-locked, there are separate firmware for each region. You cannot update to a firmware from another region. If you do so, your Wii will be bricked/semi-bricked.

To date there have three firmware releases, these are 2.0, 2.2 and 3.0.
